Tiny Bubbles Reloaded

A Tiny Bubble In The Universe
The image seen here shows the twenty five star systems that are nearest to
the Sun. In the center is the Sun. The nearest star, Centauri Proxima, is
located in the eight clock position. Of course, all these stars are part of the
Milky Way Galaxy.
A voyage to Alpha Centauri using contemporary rockets would take
between 50,000 to 80,000 years , longer than human history. The length of
time depends on the speed that a space vessel could sustain.
When the voyagers arrived at their new destination, they most likely would
encounter temperature and pressure fluctuations so volatile that life could
never be sustained without extreme artificial protection. Such a voyage is an
absurdity that fascinates the human imagination to no end.
At the time period for the novel "Faces", the Wright brothers had just
launched the first "heavier than air" plane. The first "successful" flight was
120 feet in distance at a speed 6.8 mph. In 1903 that was an amazing
achievement, but it was a long trip from Kitty Hawk to the nearest star.!
Partly as a result of this Bubble, we have a stable atmosphere and large
amounts of liquid water on Earth. Our average surface temperature is about
70 degrees. As we know, 3.4 billion years ago, shortly after the Earth
formed, life began here.
More than likely, if we were ever to find life anywhere else, it would exist
under conditions similar to this Tiny Bubble. There would be stable
temperatures and abundant liquid water. Now who is to say whether this is
part of some cosmic design or merely a matter of chance? When we look at
this circle of stars, we can see scattered stars in random locations. The
artist who drew this has suggested that there is no design.
Still I cannot help asking myself if there is something more to this Earth than
mere chance. Most stars are part of a binary system as can be seen from
this image. So our single Solar System appears to be a most unusual part
of creation.
We live in a protected bubble isolated in space..Perhaps the real issue is
our need to preserve our precious environment and protect our species from
self destruction and violence because, realistically, if this Tiny Bubble tells
us anything, it is that there is no place else to go.
The great spiritual discovery disclosed by modern astronomy is that we not
at the center of anything more than this obscure bubble. In fact, all of human
history is little more than a background voice to a universe that expands
more or less oblivious to our existence. Nevertheless, we are part and
parcel of this Event called THE BIG BANG.
Tiny bubbles in the wine
Make me happy, make me feel fine
Tiny bubbles make me warm all over
With a feeling that I'm gonna love you
Till the end of time.
