The Big Bang Antenna
Big Bang Antenna Reloaded

Those who lived in 1908,  lived with an  image of the universe that was not
the same as what  we see today. On a clear night, they saw a sky
illumined  by billions of tiny stars. In their minds, that sky would represent
one single galaxy called the universe, The Milky Way. For most of them,
that sky would have been only six thousand years old, and it would have
been created in less than one week.

The view in  those days,(1908),  this crude cosmological View was more
like the  Middle Ages than it was   like the Cosmology we now know
today.
Do I need to repeat this in red letters? Think about it!

It was more like the Astrology of Ancient Antiquity than it was   like what
we  know  today.
HELLO?  The Earth is no longer the center of  The Universe. We are a
background voice to something much bigger and more distant than our
ancestors ever imagined.

In the image  above, we see two astronomers Arno A. Penzias and
Robert W. Wilson. The year is 1964. Sixty years have passed since the
time of the novel. "FACES, (1908). They are standing beside The Horn
Antenna originally built to track signals from the Echo Satellite.

One day in 1964, they heard a persistent low level signal. They thought at
first it was some sort of local interference. So they turned, the big wheels
shown above pointing  the antenna in difference directions. This
persistent signal  came from everywhere in the universe. They could not at
first understand it. So, they consulted with other experts for months, and
then the confirmations came back.

They were hearing the sound of background radiation from an explosion
that happened 13.5 billion years ago when the universe suddenly cooled
and  changed from a super heated  energy plasma cloud into the form of
atoms.
They were hearing, for the first time,  the BIG BANG.

Today, their discovery has been thoroughly researched, and also mapped
by the COBE satellite program.  Maps can be found at APOD, the NASA
website.  The research goes on even now.

What a difference Sixty Years can Make!!! They helped  prove once and
perhaps for all times, that our  Universe had a specific time of origin,
calculated to be about 13.5 billions ago, and that it was never fixed in  a
steady sate , but continually expanding.

In our time, we  know for the first time that everything exists in the
aftermath of
                              The Big Bang.

This Image of the Universe was released at APOD on March 9,
image gives a visual presentation of something detected by Penzias
and Wilson in 1964.  Images such as this are used to study the
Standard Model of the Universe in our time.
The image encompasses the entire universe.
The Blue area is  where the Earth and Sun  are located. There the
Universe is hotter.
In the red area, a great distance from us, the  Universe is cooler.
At this time, scientist do not why this difference exists.
