A review of  the novel by William P. Young (Los Angeles, 2007).

This "novel" contains  an unconventional explanation of the Holy Trinity.
A-typical  persons  known as Papa, a cook; Jesus, a Carpenter, and the Holy
Spirit, a gardener manage the universe from a background perspective. In stark
contrast to  the Grandiose Cathedrals of  The Middle Ages, these humble
allegorical figures work out of a shack. But make no mistake,  these true
Divines have always managed  our isolated planet in this way. We just never
understood it until now.

There is a simple frame story in this novel.  It involves the death of a seven
year old girl by abduction. One of the worst things that can happen to a parent
in this life is to see his/her own child pass away at such a  tender age. While on
a camping trip in Oregon, this event takes place. The family is devastated, and
the Father, Mack, undeservedly blames himself.

During the four years after the incident itself, Mack, our hero, searches his
soul  asking the old familiar questions which give rise to either faith or a morose
self destruction. Why would a Good God allow such a horrible thing to happen?
If God is not good, then how can we say He exists? If God does not exist,
then why do we have a human conscience?

As we follow Mack's internal struggle, we learn things about ourselves.
Allegory is an ancient way of story telling. Most everything in the  Scriptures can
be read as an allegory beginning with lovely Eve and that cunning Serpent.

Here, for example, is an ELEGANT little lecture on Freedom of choice:
given to Mack by God, the Papa who works in a kitchen, much like The Oracle
in "The Matrix."

Does freedom mean that you are allowed to do whatever you want to do?  Or
could we talk about all the limiting influences in your life that actively work
against your freedom. Your family genetic heritage, your specific DNA, your
metabolic uniqueness, the quantum stuff that is going on at a subatomic level
where only  I am the always present observer….A bird’s not defined by being
grounded but by his ability fly. Remember this, humans are not defined by their
limitations, but by the intentions that I have for them.

Written as though it were a clever conversation, this is clearly a form of
lecturing through allegory. Let us break it down briefly.

Individual freedom and your devotion to family life  can never be at rest.
Impulses, passions, and the destruction stemming from our human fears always
conflict with the energy found in children as they grow up and break free. The
boundaries between us are always being broken.

Your  specific DNA speaks to your needs and desires. Only you understand it.
Born to proliferate, instilled with passion. You are instructed by your own body
on how not to fail in your goal to reach fulfillment. We all  must break free in
order to become who we were meant to be.

Your metabolic uniqueness is your energy..
Born to express your life, you are instructed in how not to destroy yourself.
Even as you grow older and experience  defeat, you rebel against this trap.
Still, on our final day, we all  must break free, and fly from this life.

The Quantum is The Pure Potential behind all things..
It was liberated 13.5 billion years ago for you,
In you, the  Grand  Creator still unveils his Pure energy.
Still, the pure potential exists inside us, these weak vessel.
Too often we forget that God surrounds us at every moment.

A bird is defined by his potentially to fly.
A eagle is limited by one thing, his intention..

Most species fly.
So announce the intent.
Break free!!! Fly.

Yes, you have to read the book yourself to get the message. But it is there..

The story takes place in the Northern parts of Oregon. It involves some
beautiful camping stories in the picturesque mountains. It is retold through a
friend named Willie, who, in  fact ,is almost indistinguishable from Mack
because neither is a well defined character. But make no mistake, this humble
novel is not “The Gospel for Dummies”.
It is about BREAKING FREE FROM DESPAIR. BEING BORN AGAIN..

In a sense,
The essence of living is a sort of memory,
The physical preservation of the past
In the present.
